“Our dog Indie suffers from separation anxiety and, ever since we adopted him five years ago, he’s come with us everywhere or, on the rare occasions I had to travel away to work, gone into kennels.  That worked fine until a year ago, when I closed my business and became an employee.  Dogs are welcome at my work-place, but five long days sitting under a table wasn’t going to be much fun for Indie. We started looking for someone to take care of Indie for a couple of days each week, someone who understood dogs and had enough experience to take care of Indie’s special needs.  We got a few responses to our advert in the local vets, all wonderful people, but no-one was prepared to not leave him on

his own some of the day.  We were nearly giving up when one of the staff at the vets suggested we talk to Elaine of ‘Safe in our Care’.

Indie fell in love with Elaine at their first meeting and gradually got to know and trust her family and feels at home in their house, stables and paddocks.  After a couple of weeks he began to love going there, a year on, Indie is a much happier and more relaxed dog.  He leaps out of the car to rush into Elaine’s house – all set for another active day, running around in the paddocks and going out for walks with other dogs into the woods.  When we pick him up, he’s completely flaked-out from non-stop stimulation from being with his ‘other pack’ – Elaine’s own two dogs plus others visiting, like him.

With masses of experience and the patience of a saint, Elaine gradually got Indie used to being separate from her, which means he’s now able to be separate from us, too.  We can actually go out without him to the shops or spend a couple of hours at the pub.  Fantastic!

I highly recommend ‘Safe in our Care’ services to anyone seeking a safe and fun environment for their dog(s).  The service is reliable and flexible, good notice is given of any changes to routine arrangements, and the day rates are very reasonable.  For me, the most important thing about Elaine and her family, is that they love dogs and dogs love them.
